There has been a very heavy rumor twirling around as of late regarding a possible reunion between wide receiver DeSean Jackson and the Philadelphia Eagles.

As all NFL fans very well remember, Jackson was essentially kicked out of Philadelphia by the infamous Chip Kelly and it left a sour note in the mouths of Eagles fans and DeSean Jackson alike. He has spoken out about his love for Philadelphia. While there’s no doubt I, along with several Eagles fans, would welcome him with open arms, I would rather it not be with him in an Eagles jersey.

Why? you may ask, well my answer is simple: he is fragile. He is an amazing athlete and I believe he still has a few years left in him , but I think it would be a step back for the Eagles if they were to take him back. The simple reasoning of “but he was so good with us” isn’t a good excuse to re-sign him.

If it were that easy, we should bring back running back LeSean McCoy and wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, they both contributed a lot to the offense. But with head coach Doug Pederson and rookie quarterback Carson Wentz, we are entering a new era with new players. Yes, we need a young running back; yes, we need a deep threat; yes, we need a big wide receiver, but these are all players we can draft come April.

I will of course support whatever the front office decides to do, I’m sure it isn’t an easy decision to make. There’s no question Carson Wentz needs the speed that DeSean Jackson can provide, but I don’t think he’s the right man for the job.  Eagles need to look ahead to the future and surround Wentz with young talent who are long-term rather than a player who is injury-prone and therefore unreliable even if it is short-term.

I’m not concerned at all about the future of the Eagles. This season, however, is another story!
