There’s a Female at a Combine!
Women have been slowly integrating themselves into the football world, with more female viewers, more women with fantasy football teams, and even sites like NFL Female devoted to the female fan. But Lauren Silberman is taking it one step further, becoming the first woman to compete at a regional combine in New Jersey March 2-3, 2013.
Lauren Silberman, a former varsity soccer player at Wisconsin, will be participating at the combine as a kicker.
Silberman told NFL.com, “I was not aware that I was the first female registrant. I was actually hoping that the 2012 historical milestone rule, to allow women to play, would prompt more women to attend tryouts this year. But for me, what’s important is to finally have a chance to fulfill my dreams by trying out to play in the world’s most competitive football league.”
Silberman is making history and inspiring other girls out there to not see the NFL as an unreachable plain of athletics.
Although she may not have NFL scouts banging down her door, she has become the face of just how far women can make it in a man’s world.
