WOW and WISE team up for special event
Who’s “WOW”ing the NFL
Women of Washington are making sure it is “WISE” – Women In Sports/Events
Are you a Washington Redskins female fan? Join WOW today by going to wowredskins.com. In my first WOW article for nflfemale.com, dated September 5, 2014, WOW was 98,000 strong. Membership remains FREE and monthly events are held, but RSVP quickly, as spots are extremely limited! Today’s numbers have soared to 113,298.
On January 17th, I attended a WOW event at the Redskins indoor training facility. Nike Trainer, Deanna Jefferson, teamed up with WOW to provide a heart pumping party workout followed by an exclusive Q&A on keeping your New Year fitness resolutions! A great time was had by all, as we participated in stretch, warmups and ZUMBA!
I was able to meet some of my #RedskinsTweetTeam members in person, for the first time, and see Deanna and her staff once again. We were all together at NFLPlay60 last fall, in Ft. Belvior Elementary and Dumphries Elementary, getting the kids moving! It was a fun reunion and terrific way to kick off our fitness goals. #WOWUnited. As I mentioned, events are held monthly and as soon as you join, again for FREE, you will be sent invitations by the dedicated and enthusiastic WOW staff. My appreciation to Alyssa and all hands on deck for each of these events. On Twitter, follow @wowredskins and @DeannaJefferson for your most up to date information.
In February, WOW members joined forces with Redskins Salute to assemble hundreds of care packages that were shipped to troops overseas. We were alongside players, cheerleader ambassadors, and alumni in the Redskins indoor training facility. I was unable to attend this significant and heartfelt event. Follow @wowredskins and @RedskinsSalute to support & join.
From the WOW website: “On Thursday, March 19, WOW teamed up with WISE (Women in Sports and Events) DC Chapter to host a networking and panel event entitled “Up Close with the Women Behind the Redskinsâ€. The WOW Leadership Series and WISE Power Play Panel introduced a powerhouse of female executive leaders working for the Washington Redskins, courtesy of wowredskins.com.

“The event started as an in depth interactive panel discussion moderated by Julie Donaldson, anchor for Comcast SportsNet Central and active WOW member. Each executive discussed their career paths and current position responsibilities. Our guest panelists included Jane Rodgers – Executive Director of the Washington Redskins Charitable Foundation, Nancy Hubacher – Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Rachel Engleson – Director of Premium Client Services, Signe Hilton – Director of Entertainment and Game Production, and Stephanie Jojokian – Director and Choreographer for the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders.” courtesy WOW.com. Â An in depth career bio was provided by WOW to each attendee.
Walking in to FedEx to register, all hands on deck were warm, welcoming and knowledgeable. As I used to work there, I understood the driving in and space. For a first timer to a very large venue – FedEx Field – Home of the Washington Redskins, it can be intimidating and overwhelming. The Washington Redskins staff put everyone at ease, as directions to the event, and ease of passage was made simplified for all in attendance. As we entered, the Washington Redskin Cheerleaders known as 1st Ladies of Football, were holding their prep classes for the upcoming auditions for the 2015 cheerleading squad. Tables were clearly marked for both events, with plenty of welcoming staff on hand to answer restroom and elevator questions. Many of the women, including myself, purchased merchandise that can only be done so through the cheerleaders. I purchased some great socks and a tee shirt.
Riding the elevator with a WOW member and my friend, Tela, we got off on the Club Level and were greeted by more staff on hand directing us to the beverages of our choice from soft drinks, water and wine. We chatted, we took pictures, as the evening moved swiftly into the tent on the outside of the Club Level known as Players Lounge. Here the Women in Sports Events Leadership Panel, moderated by CSN Reporter and Official WOW Reporter Julie Donaldson, would take place.
Approximately 100+ women took their seats as the panelists introduced themselves and their background, followed by questions asked by Ms. Donaldson, just a few among which were, “How did you arrive in this position?” “What does your day/duties consist of?” “What is the culture of an NFL team like?”. Best question of all, “Work/Life balance?”. That received a hearty laugh from the entire group of women. Nancy Hubacher – Vice President Sales & Marketing for the Washington Redskins, had a great smile and response for all when she said, “My kids, ages 18/21, think I have the more fun job than their father”. When I was the FedEx Field Sales Director in ’99, my daughters, ages 14/9, echoed the same sentiments!
Women setting great examples with intelligence, talent and enthusiasm to exceed expectations! It’s the way women do business. Women, indeed bring unique qualities to any company and challenge! That describes all of the Women in Leadership employed by the Washington Redskins and moderator Julie Donaldson, employed by Comcast Sportsnet! I would venture to say the majority of the women in the room would say that statement applies to them as well!
Panelists range from a few years out of college to those that are entrenched in their careers, but the single thread all of these women agreed upon when it came to making their employment choices, was best summed up by Executive Director Redskins Charitable Foundation, Jane Rogers, “Make yourself available and be open to the possibilities in life.” That statement WOW’ed this writer as well as the WOW members and was most WISE!
