Game Day Experience:

The regular season is FINALLY upon us and I couldn’t be more excited! I was fortunate enough to attend the home opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday at MetLife Stadium and WOW, was it a great one to be at. When we got off the bus around 10:30 AM, the tailgates had already been going strong for two hours. The parking lots were filled with fellow Jet fans cooking up some burgers and hot dogs. The beers were certainly flowing!

After we made our way through the parking lots, checking out all the different tailgates, we stopped by some of the booths outside of the stadium. MetLife is great in making sure there are a ton of activities going on throughout the stadium so there is really never a dull pregame moment. We won ourselves a cool Jets/Chase water bottle, and headed over to the Budlight Beer garden, which is something they offer before every home game..5 dollar beers..who can pass that up!

A perfect day
A perfect day

This is my favorite pregame hang out spot because along with the cheap beer, they’ve got a great DJ and TONS of giveaways. Former Jets Alumni stop by to sign autographs and hang out with the fans too. I had the opportunity to compete for COACHES CLUB seats! For those of you who don’t know what those are, it’s the field level seats where you have access to the private areas and can stand behind the players’ bench. I FROZE! They had asked me a trivia question, it was something along the lines of “who were 3 former jets coaches who went on to head coach other teams” and I completely blanked on the third! I got Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick and one of the jets alum even tried to help me get the third coach, but we just couldn’t do it! I was so bummed! I have never sat in those seats and one day would LOVE to..but I will never forget the answer now…Pete Carroll!

MetLife also offers a huge selection of things to do for the kids. They have free face painting, games and a ton of contests for kids (and adults) of all ages! If you are ever considering coming to a game and are not sure if the “atmosphere” is right for you, just know that there is so much to do and they cater to all different people. If you aren’t into the tailgate scene, the stadium itself opens up early, and you are able to watch the pregame practice, or just walk around and check out all the shops and everything else MetLife has to offer!

Week 1 Win:

Here are some of the highlights from week 1, as well as an injury report.

Our offense started out pretty slow, and the crowd screamed when Brandon Marshall dropped a pass from Ryan Fitzpatrick that seemed to just slip right through his hands early on in the game. The Browns were the first on the board in the 2nd quarter with a touchdown thrown to Travis Benjamin, which gave them a 7-0 lead. After an interception thrown by Fitzpatrick, Marshall was able to get his groove back and strip the Browns defense of the ball and give possession back to the Jets. With that, Chris Ivory ran it in for a touchdown to tie the game up, 7-7.

With a little more than 2 minutes left in the first half, the Browns kicked a field goal and the score was 10-7. Thirty seconds before halftime came Eric Decker’s BEAUTIFUL touchdown (which happened to be right in front of me and I made it on TV..HI MOM J ) making the score 14-10 Jets at the half. After half time, we kept up our momentum. Next came a touchdown, Fitz to Marshall in the 3rd quarter, a turnover picked up by Darrelle Revis, and another Ivory touchdown, making the final score 31-10.

Some standout players in my mind were Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, Chris Ivory, and yes, even Ryan Fitzpatrick. Some of the breakout players from last year that were rather quiet are Jeff Cumberland and Jeremy Kerley, and I’m wondering if they will be utilized in the future?

Injury update..,we had some scary ones on Sunday! Antonio Cromartie was carted off the field with a knee injury, which we feared could be season ending, but thankfully the MRI today, came back negative and Cro is listed as “day-to-day”. He has NOT yet been ruled out for next Monday’s matchup against the Indianapolis Colts. An even scarier injury was to rookie linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin, who took a hard fall onto his head and neck, and was knocked unconscious. He too was carted off the field, and taken to the local ER. He was kept overnight, and found to have no neck injury, but a concussion. Wishing them both a speedy recovery!

Hopefully, one day, I can see some of you at my stadium.
