It’s early December and the race for the playoffs have begun. After their 28-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts on Thanksgiving the Pittsburgh Steelers put themselves back in the playoff hunt. The Steelers are at 6-5 entering into week 13.
Thanksgiving night we saw the Steelers, who have been MIA the last several weeks. All around the Steelers seem to be heating up to make that run for a playoff spot. The Killer B’s were in sync Thursday night; RB Le’veon Bell rushed for 120 yards and had a touchdown early in the 1st quarter, QB Ben Roethlisberger and WR Antonio Brown connected for three touchdowns. The Steelers offense line stepped up and dominated in the last two weeks, allowing Bell to do what he does best. Bell also had 51 carries, 12 receptions and 345 rushing yards against their Week 11 opponent, the Cleveland Browns.
Week 12 opponent, the Indianapolis Colts. The offensive line has been able to protect their QB; Roethlisberger wasn’t sacked by the Browns or Colts defense. If you were looking for the meltdown the Steelers defense is known to have on road games, you were surely disappointed. Pittsburgh’s defense stepped up and sacked Colt’s backup QB Scott Tolzien three times, had two goal line stops on 4th down and two interceptions.
Pittsburgh and the Baltimore Ravens are currently tied atop the AFC North and if the season ended today the Ravens would take the crown. But, we still have 5 more weeks of football. So what does this mean for the Pittsburgh Steelers? It’s a race to the finish line in the AFC North, and if you are a Steelers or Ravens fans it’s going to be some great football to watch in December. Not only will it be Christmas but December 25th is going to be the Super Bowl of the AFC North when these two teams face off again at Heinz Field.
The Steelers are predicted to win the AFC North over the Ravens and when you look at the two teams’s remaining schedules it works in the Steelers favor.
Baltimore faces the 7-4 Dolphins at M&T Bank Stadium Sunday, Week 14 @the Patriots and Week 15 home against the Eagles, Week 16 @ Steelers and ending their season Week 17 @ the Bengals.
Pittsburgh hosts the Giants this Sunday, Week 15 @ the Bills, Week 16 @ Bengals, then hosting Ravens and Browns in the last weeks of the regular season.
Both teams, and fans, know that the AFC North title will most likely come down to that Christmas game but the Steelers who have been playing as of late, and who are on a 2 game winning streak; those are the Steelers who have to show up in the last weeks of the 2016 season.
The Pittsburgh Steelers host Eli Manning and the New York Giants who are at 8-3, this week. Their six game winning streak opponents could be up for discussion defeating losing teams; Rams, Bengals, Bears and Browns. But, just like the Steelers with their two game winning streak, they could be up for dispute as well against the 0-12 Browns and Colts without Luck, but a win is a win. Most would agree that the Giants have some real competition facing the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday, the Steelers are a better team at home.
Coach Mike Tomlin has already called on Steeler Nation to show up and be loud on Sunday. Get your Terrible Towels and game face on Steeler Nation, you are still in this.
