Chiefs 14 Steelers 43
What a turnaround for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers took the field Sunday night at Heinz Field and put Week 3 behind them. The Pittsburgh Steelers annihilated the Kansas City Chiefs in a 43-14 win. Steelers welcomed back RB Le’Veon Bell, who was used as a wide receiver in this game. Bell had 18 carries for 144 yards and 5 receptions which racked up 34 more.
The Pittsburgh Steelers looked like a totally different team after the loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Wide receiver Sammie Coates had 6 receptions for 79 years. On the first offensive play Ben Roethlisberger found Coates for a 47 yard reception. While Coates hasn’t made a trip into the end zone he has caught at least one pass for 40 or more yards in the first 4 weeks of the season.
QB Ben Roethlisberger was named AFC Player of the Week. Roethlisberger completed 22 of 27 passes, five touchdown passes and in the first quarter alone Roethlisberger had already completed three touchdown passes. Markus Wheaton wasn’t as involved in the game as most would assume but Wheaton caught a 30-yard touchdown pass to keep the Steelers at a 36-0 lead over the Chiefs early in the 3rd quarter.
While the offense was on fire it would be very remiss of me not to mention the Steelers defense. The Pittsburgh defense was determined to seek revenge after letting Eagles QB Carson Wentz have a field day in Week 3. Unfortunately for the Chiefs they received the brunt of that revenge. While Week 3 left the Steelers defense without key players they had the “next man up” mentality with backups Vince Williams, Jordan Dangerfield and 1st round draft pick Artie Burns. Defensive end Cam Heyward was responsible for 3 of the 4 Steelers sacks and a pass deflection that turned into an interception for LB Jarvis Jones.
The Pittsburgh Steelers take on the 1-3 New York Jets Sunday at Heinz Field. In the last Steelers vs. Jets matchup the Jets were led by QB Mike Vick, the Jets defense managed 4 turnovers and held the Steelers to only 36 yards rushing in their 20-13 win. This time around the Jets are led by QB Ryan Fitzpatrick who has been intercepted 10 times so far this season.
Injuries are still lingering with the Steelers. Ryan Shazier, Robert Golden and Ramon Foster are potential for Week 5 while WR Eli Rogers has been ruled out with a toe injury. The Steelers are favored in this game but we have seen the Steelers take some losses after big wins and we can expect the Jets to play aggressive on the road as they are desperate for a win.
Sunday will be a sad but more than likely glorious day, win or lose, for Steeler Nation. After 5 seasons, Pittsburgh will be retiring the horizontally striped “bumble bee” jerseys.
It’s about time.
