Packers Draft 2017: their need, picks and my excitement

Finally, the season is coming soon, but we’ll have to wait a bit more. This draft 2017 made us dream a little bit more and certainly, we had some impressive surprises from general manager Ted Thompson. Before we start to chat about the picks and our expectations about the NFL Draft at Philadelphia, let’s remember briefly how we left the Green Bay Packers last year.

Packers started the season with a lot of excitement, but once again we had some problems. Players were injured; actually the most important players were out. Some for a short term and others a long one. Also, It wasn’t the best Aaron Rodgers’ season at all. His leadership and ability was questioned.

After a dark period, Aaron came up and shared a message for all Packers fans “Let’s run the table”. Like a miracle, the Packers weren’t the same and Aaron recovered his confidence. At least now the fans were more confident in the team. So, things started to happen and then, they were in the NFC Championship game. The fans were very pleased and confident, Packers could get to Super Bowl. The team finally had a great chance, once again. Unfortunately, the Atlanta Falcons were on their way and the dream was gone.

The season finished for us, but it was just for a moment. The team, coaches, GM and so on needed to stop and think what was good and what went wrong during the season. Also, they urgently needed to make this next season better than the last one. They let go some players such as Eddie Lacy and TJ Lang for example. The Packers should think strategically about what their needs are for this moment.

So, they started the draft analyzing players who are experienced in positions like cornerback, defensive tackle, linebacker, running back and wide receiver. These positions were the most important for the team at this moment. Packers need someone to replace Eddie Lacy and also, a good player to interact with Ty Montgomery.

All eyes from Packers fans around the world were on Philadelphia from April 27-29. Trade by trade, the fans were trying to find out what was in Ted Thompson’s mind.

To our surprise, here are the picks:

Round 2, Pick 1 – Kevin King, CB, Washington

Round 2, Pick 29 – Josh Jones, S, NC State

Round 2, Pick 29 – Montravius Adams, DT, Auburn

Round 4, Pick 1 (No. 108) (From Browns) Vince Biegel, LB, Wisconsin

Round 4, Pick 28 (No. 134) Jamaal Williams, RB, Brigham Young University

Round 5, Pick 32 (No. 175) (From Broncos) DeAngelo Yancey, WR, Purdue

Round 5, Pick 39 (No. 182) (Compensatory pick) Aaron Jones, RB, UTEP

Round 6, Pick 29 (No. 212) Kofi Amichia, C, USF

Round 7, Pick 20 (No. 238) Devante Mays, RB, Utah State

Round 7, Pick 29 (No. 247) Malachi Dupre, WR, LSU

You can read the analysis on each player in Lucy’s article which was published here on nflfemale.com. She did a good job and like me, she’s very excited and happy for all the picks.

We now have two running backs and two wide receivers much to our happiness and surprise. Also, Packers have a strong, fast and versatile cornerback and linebacker. I just have one question: How long do we need to wait for the season to begin?

Yes, like you I’m very excited and happy. So, let’s just wait and cross our fingers. This year can be ours.
