Quick 5 with Lucy Rendler-Kaplan – Packers OFR

Official Green Bay Packers Fan Reporter

Come chat Packers with me @LUCYrk78

NF: Where did you learn about football – When? and from Who?

LRK: Growing up in Chicago, the Bears were HUGE when I was little. We’ve got old home videos (that we can no longer watch, since they’re on VHS!) of me at 7, reciting all the names of the Bears in the Super Bowl and wildly dancing to the Super Bowl Shuffle. However, as I got older, I couldn’t stand how cold games were, so I quickly lost interest in seeing the Bears play. In my late teens, I began dating this guy that played park district football each Sunday. After his games, we would go to his parents house, order a pizza and watch NFL games for hours. Wanting to grow (and show!) interest in things HE was interested in, I slowly became more interested in the NFL. The best part? He would take me to Minnesota Vikings games, where they had an INDOOR stadium!

I can’t pinpoint exactly when I became such a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan – I’m an obsessed fan. It was much easier to be a Packers fan when I lived in California. Once I moved back, it wasn’t AS cool that I wrote for them, living in Chicago, but it definitely makes for some fun trash talking texts to read from my Chicago friends each week!

NF: Priorities of Life – What are your top 3?

LRK: Family, my dog Desi, being of service.

NF: If you had any job in the world – what would it be, and why?

LRK: I’ve been super fortunate to have some really great jobs. For the past 8 years, I got to work with companies very focused on corporate social responsibility – giving back, helping others. I think a lot of times people think that to “give back” it has to be in some really grand way, but it can be as simple as just sitting and listening to someone, or entertaining them, or showing them options they might not have known existed. I’d love to combine my love of entertainment with writing – Erin Andrews, I’m coming for your job!

NF: How has your association with NFLFemale been a positive influence in your world?

LRK: It’s been HUGE! I LOVE how focused my sisters are, and how passionate they are about the game and their teams. I LOVE passion in people, and to have a built in group of like-minded, strong women is amazing. We don’t only talk about the NFL – we are all there for each other when we need each other to be. It’s also been a great source of accountability – writing is hard at times, and knowing that people rely on me for thoughts or a game recap has been a great way to focus my writing.

NF: If you want to know the real side of sports legends, listen to their kids and grandkids. What do you hope others say about you?

LRK: I would HOPE that people believe I’m honest, trustworthy and kind.
