Jairus Byrd, the often controversial free agent signing by the New Orleans Saints, is expected to be released on the first day of free agency.
Byrd, 30, still had three years left on the six-year contract. He had three interceptions in three seasons with the Saints. The Saints will absorb a cap hit of $8 million to move on from Byrd. He played in all 16 games last season for the first time since 2012.

If the #Saints are waiting until March 9 to release Byrd Id think that could mean they plan on using the June 1 designation

This is why the Saints used a 2nd Round pick on Vonn Bell last April and J. Byrd’s $$ payout and production never came close to matching. https://t.co/vwbkk89yfX

The Saints signed Jairus Byrd to a $54 million deal at the beginning of free agency in 2014. The $54 million deal that included $28 million guaranteed.
