The 2016 NFL season is upon us and preseason has begun for the most part. This team has had its share of ups and downs from injuries and setbacks but they never gave up. The Ravens have the heart of a lion.
The 2016 season will be like the rise of the Phoenix Bird, because this team has risen from the past that plagued them during the 2015 season. They have gotten off to a promising start considering that most of the team was injured during the 2015 season.
I attended the first preseason game. Even though they started off slow during the opening half, the defense allowed Cam Newton to march down the field, but the Carolina Panthers only scored a field goal.
The team began to settle down and play their style of play. Ryan Mallett played a wonderful game and got the offense moving and scoring on various drives. He is making a case for being the backup quarterback to Joe Flacco.
We are off to a 2-0 start after defeating the Indianapolis Colts. Once again, the defense allowed the Colts to march down the field only to settle for a field goal. The defense did settle down and played Ravens football. The rookies played very well. Ronnie Stanley and Matt Judon played extremely well. I believe they will have a breakout season. I think we could go 11-5 as long as everyone stays healthy.
With the addition of Mike Wallace who can stretch the field, along with Steve Sr., our receiving corps looks to have a strong season. As much as we look good on paper it’s what translates onto the field come the first regular season game. Flacco finally has an offensive coordinator who he has gotten comfortable with. We, as fans, would like nothing more than to see our team hoist that Lombardi Trophy for the third time. With our core players who are returning back from the PUP list, the defense has a chip on their shoulders.
One player who has a lot to prove to all the doubters would be Breshad Perriman. He was the Ravens 2015 1st round draft pick. Due to a knee injury that landed him on the injured reserve he didn’t get to play at all. He is making a comeback and is ready to show why the Ravens drafted him. I am sure all the fans are ready to see exactly how fast Mr. Perriman will be. We are hoping that he will have a breakout season and become one of the go-to guys for Joe to throw to and make it hard for defensive backs to cover him. So, we are all rooting for you to do well.
On August 30th, the roster must be cut down to 75 players. Some will make it and some will not. The players will be putting on a strong case during these last two games. The regular season begins soon and looking at our schedule, the team that we seem to have a problem with is the Cincinnati Bengals, but hopefully our defensive backs can cover A.J. Green and not give Andy Dalton time to make plays. Maybe, just maybe, we can get our defense back to being disruptive in 2016.
